We deliver Lantra Awards and City & Guilds/NPTC accredited chainsaw training and qualifications, to suit your requirements. Our training centre, Morton Park, is purpose built to deliver maintenance and cross cutting training, and we have access to woodland sites throughout Yorkshire for felling and aerial units.

Ground Units

The first building block for any chainsaw training, our chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting course provides candidates with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to ensure they can confidently and safely maintain and operate a chainsaw.

Felling Small Trees up to 380mm (15″) training will provide candidates with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to enable them to fell small trees correctly and safely, in a work environment.

A course combining chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting with felling up to 380mm (15″). This training will provide candidates with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to ensure they can safely use a chainsaw at work.

When dealing with larger diameter trees (over 380mm and up to 760mm), further felling techniques are necessary, including using winches. This training will give candidates the necessary knowledge and skills to safely fell and process medium trees.

When dealing with trees that have been windblown, specialised training is required. This course will provide candidates with the necessary knowledge and techniques to safely manage individual windblown trees.

Assisted felling involves using ropes, winches, and pulling systems to help operators when felling trees. This can reduce the manual effort required for traditional methods, or enable the movement of larger trees which would be difficult to fell with basic tools. Assisted felling may also be required in cases where hitting wedges or being under the tree during felling is not recommended due to safety issues, such as when dealing with dead or diseased trees.

For chainsaw operators, the HSE recommends that refresher training takes place every two to three years for occasional users and every five years for full-time users. We can provide chainsaw refresher training to meet the needs of your workplace.

Tree climbing and aerial rescue is the first building block when wanting to complete chainsaw operations from a rope and harness, in a tree. This course will provide candidates with the basics, techniques, and safety guidelines to be able to climb safely and effectively using ropes and harness.

Aerial Tree Pruning is an advanced chainsaw unit, undertaken by experienced aerial chainsaw operators, who are required to use pruning positions and techniques to perform crown thinning and reduction.

Aerial Tree Rigging is an advanced chainsaw unit, undertaken by operators with significant experience of arboriculture operations and chainsaw operations in a canopy. It is for those who are required to perform removal of sections from a tree crown under the control of rope rigging and lifting/lowering gear.

When supporting chainsaw operators who are working up the tree, from ground level, specialised training is required to ensure safety for the ground worker, and effective ground support.

Often, using a mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) to complete aerial chainsaw operations is preferable to working from a rope and harness. Specialised training is required to use a chainsaw from a MEWP, and we can provide this for you.
