Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1)

Pesticides are widely and successfully used in land-based industries, but they can be potentially harmful substances, therefore it is essential they are handled, applied, and stored correctly. 

It is a legal requirement for all those using pesticides to hold the appropriate qualifications, Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1) is a prerequisite for all pesticide application qualifications.  

Who is it for?

Our one day PA1 training course is suitable for those within the agriculture and horticulture industries who are responsible for the storage, handling, and application of pesticides. This course will help candidates to develop their knowledge of health and safety, and legislation, enabling them to work safely and effectively out in the field, in accordance with HSE requirements.

Candidates will require a good understanding of written and spoken English, as this course is theory based.

  • Legislative requirements and codes of practice relating to the use of pesticides
  • Relevance and interpretation of product labels
  • Minimising risks of human contamination
  • Storage and transportation of pesticides
  • Management and disposal of surplus pesticide and waste materials
  • Record keeping requirements
  • Minimising the risk of environmental contamination
  • Implementing emergency procedures
