All Terrain Vehicle: Sit-Astride (quad)
Sit-Astride ATVs (quads) are versatile vehicles with a range of attachments including trailers, sprayers, and spreaders, making them an effective and flexible business tool. However, even the most experienced ATV riders can find themselves in potentially dangerous situations, and without the proper training serious accidents can occur.
Our Lantra sit-astride ATV course is delivered by experienced instructors who will guide candidates through the training to make sure they are able to use the sit-astride ATV safely and with confidence, and that the key fundamentals of driving, loading and Health and Safety are covered.
Who is it for?
Our sit-astride ATV (quad) Lantra training course is suitable for those in the agricultural, forestry, and
leisure industries. Duration is usually 1-day, but 2-days may be necessary to cover all units. Assessed units include:
- Level Ground
- Carrying loads
- Rough Terrain
- Trailed Equipment
Course content
- Legal requirements and safe practice
- Risks associated with using a sit-astride ATV
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- The main causes of accidents
- ATV controls and components
- Functions of all the instruments
- Daily checks as indicated in the manufacturer’s operator manual
- Pre-start checks
- Loading and towing capacities
- Operate the ATV safely on a variety of slopes and terrain
- Failed hill climb
- Active riding
- Loads and/or trailed equipment
- Loading and securing ATV for transport on the road

- Helmet with fitted chin strap conforming to safety standards:
- ATV helmet – BS EN 1384:1997, BS EN 1078:1997, BS EN 12492:200 or UNECE Regulations 22.05
- Open face motorcycle helmet – BS 6658:1985
- Full face motorcycle helmet – BS 6658:1985
- Eye protection (if not provided with helmet) conforming to EN 166
- Steel toecap boots
- Work gloves
- Hi-viz clothing (waistcoat can be provided)
- Packed lunch
