Level 2 Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (previously City & Guilds CS38)

It can be necessary to complete tree work from up the tree, this training in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue is the starting point. Aerial tree work can be very dangerous, so quality training is essential. Our basic tree climbing and aerial rescue course will provide candidates with key knowledge, skills, and practical guidance so they are able to work safely and securely in the trees.

Who is it for?

Our tree climbing and aerial rescue training is aimed at those who work in forestry, arboriculture, and conservation industries. It is the first step into aerial tree work, offering the foundations of safe and efficient tree climbing using ropes and harness. 

This is a physically demanding course, so a good level of physical fitness is essential. 

Course content

  • Understand the legislation relating to tree climbing
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Inspection of climbing harness and identify features
  • Tie, dress, and set a range of tree climbing knots
  • Identify hazards and manage the associated risks
  • Choose appropriate anchor points
  • Use techniques for safe, efficient ascent and descent
  • Understand the duties of a competent ground person
  • Establish safe and comfortable work positions
  • Understand correct final pruning position and the 1-2-3 method of branch removal
  • Carry out aerial rescue techniques
