Our Powered Pole Pruner course provides candidates with the appropriate techniques and safety guidelines to ensure they are confident when using a powered pole pruner, and aware of relevant health and safety guidelines, ensuring they use a pole pruner safely and effectively.

Using a pole pruner is an effective way to trim and shape branches that are too high or too thick for traditional hand pruners.

Who is it for?

Our Lantra Powered Pole Pruner course is suitable for those who work in arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, landscaping, or grounds maintenance. Existing chainsaw operators (who already hold a qualification in chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting) can complete a 1-day course, and novice operators can complete a 2-day course.

  • HSE legislation and safety guidelines
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Safety features of a powered pole pruner
  • Maintaining the chain, guide bar, and power unit
  • Fueling and starting the pruning saw and pre-cut checks
  • On-site risk assessment
  • Pruning and cutting techniques
  • Understanding ‘tension’ and ‘compression’ in timber
  • Safe procedures to remove a trapped guide bar
  • Clear and tidy working area and post-use pruning saw checks
