360° excavators (tracked, up to 10 tonnes)

360° excavators (mini-diggers) are widely used throughout the land-based and construction industries. They are so named as they have the ability to revolve a full 360 degrees, making them versatile machines that can be used for a variety of different tasks. In order that they are operated efficiently and safely, the correct training is required.

This Lantra integrated training and assessment course runs for one to three days, depending on experience. Our instructors will guide candidates through the training to ensure they learn the key fundamentals and techniques of operating a 360° excavator.

This course offers a range of certificate options, depending on candidate needs:

  • Below ten tonnes
  • Above ten tonnes
  • Excavators used as cranes
  • Tracked or wheeled

Who is it for?

Those in land-based or construction industries who are required to use a 360° excavator at work. The course is suitable for novices, those with on-the-job experience but no formal training, and those who require refresher training to comply with HSE requirements.

Training will allow candidates to develop their skills and knowledge in order to operate the machine in a safe and confident manner.

Course sessions

  • Machine and site risk assessment
  • Plant safety and the law
  • Machine components, operator controls, knowledge and preparation for work
  • Travelling and manoeuvring the machine, including on varying terrain and in restricted spaces
  • Operate the machine, including changing attachments
  • Excavate below ground level on a variety of ground types
  • Load spoil into various sizes of vehicles/hoppers
  • Grade, spread and level different types of terrain
  • Loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
  • Excavators used as cranes (optional- additional day required)
  • Theory assessment
  • Practical assessment
