Level Arboricultural Ground Worker (Previously City and Guilds CS45)

Individuals who operate ground working tasks as part of their work in arboriculture, forestry, or other industries. It will provide the individual with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to carry out arboricultural ground worker tasks, e.g. preparing equipment, setting equipment, and supporting aerial workers on site.

Who is it for?

Our Arboricultural Ground Worker training is suitable for those who work with an aerial chainsaw team, to support them on the ground with pruning and dismantling tasks. This course has been devised with the key aim for candidates to successfully evidence their competence in forestry and arboriculture operations.

Course content

  • Explain the risk assessment process
  • Identify the hazards, risks and controls associated with the site, task and machine
  • Outline emergency planning relevant to the working area
  • Outline responsibilities as an operator under the Health and Safety at Work Act and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
  • State providers of industry good practice
  • State on site arboricultural groundworkers roles and responsibilities
  • Discuss site zoning in relation to on site preparation
  • State how to enter the drop zone safely and effectively
  • State why aerial operators require support
  • Explain why it is important to inform the aerial operator promptly and clearly of any changes in the hazards and risks of the site
  • Prepare equipment for use
  • State considerations for correct set-up and removal of ladders
  • Describe how to safely pass and retrieve equipment to the aerial operator
  • Pass and retrieve equipment to and from the aerial operator
  • Set-up a ground based lowering device
  • Explain how to lower tree sections safely
  • State why it is important to remove arisings from the drop zone as soon as it is safe to do so
  • Enter the drop zone safely and effectively
  • Describe the correct methods for disposing of waste
  • Clean and tidy working area
  • Dispose of waste safely in line with legislation
  • Used appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Carried out work to minimise environmental damage
  • Worked in a way which maintains health and safety and is consistent with relevant legislation and industry good practice

Cost: £250+VAT per person to include Registration, 1-day training, City & Guilds/NPTC Assessment, Certificate and ID card.

Duration: 2-days including assessment

Due to the nature of this training, it is best  completed in conjunction with Aerial Tree Rigging, as there is a need for operators completing dismantling tasks from up the tree.
