Our Use of a Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness course will provide candidates with key knowledge, skills, and practical guidance so they are able to use a chainsaw safely and securely in the trees.
Aerial tree work can be very dangerous, so quality training is essential.
Who is it for?
Our Chainsaw from a Rope and Harness training is aimed at those who work in forestry, arboriculture, and conservation industries, who need to operate a chainsaw from up the tree. This training will prepare candidates for their Level 2 assessment.
Candidates who enrol on this course will already have their Level 2 qualifications in Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue (C&G unit 203, previously CS38), Chainsaw Maintenance, Cross-cutting and Felling up to 380mm (C&G units 201 and 202, previously CS30 & CS31)
This is a physically demanding course, so a good level of physical fitness is essential.
Course content
- Understand the legislation and safety guidelines pertaining to the use of a chainsaw from a rope and harness.
- Understand the safety considerations to be observed in organising a work site.
- Carry out pre-start checks to the chainsaw, cold and hot starting techniques.
- Demonstrate techniques for hauling chainsaws into the tree and attaching them appropriately to the harness.
- Use appropriate techniques for establishing secure and comfortable work positions.
- Demonstrate the appropriate use of various step and sink cuts and correct final pruning cuts.
- Use top-handled and lightweight rear-handled chainsaws in a safe and efficient manner to remove light and medium weight branches.
- Understand and fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a competent ground person.
